Midsized firms operate in the same hypercompetitive, digital environment as large enterprises—but with fewer technical and budget resources to draw from. That’s why it is essential for IT leaders to leverage best-practice processes and models that can help them support strategic business goals such as agility, innovation, speed-tomarket, and always-on business operations. A hybrid IT implementation can provide the infrastructure flexibility to support the next generation of high-performance, data-intensive applications. A hybrid foundation can also facilitate new, collaborative processes that bring together IT and business stakeholders.

Today’s leading-edge organizations differentiate themselves through analytics to further their competitive advantage by extracting value from all their data sources. Other companies are looking to become data-driven through the modernization of their data management deployments. These strategies do include challenges, such as the management of large growing volumes of data. Today’s digital world is already creating data at an explosive rate, and the next wave is on the horizon, driven by the emergence of IoT data sources. The physical data warehouses of the past were great for collecting data from across the enterprise for analysis, but the storage and compute resources needed to support them are not able to keep pace with the explosive growth. In addition, the manual cumbersome task of patch, update, upgrade poses risks to data due to human errors. To reduce risks, costs, complexity, and time to value, many organizations are taking their data warehouses to the cloud. Whether hosted lo

Big Data is not just a big buzzword. Government agencies have been collecting large amounts of data for some time and analyzing the data collected to one degree or another. Big data is a term that describes high volume, variety and velocity of information that inundates an organization on a regular basis. But it’s not the amount of data that’s important. It’s what organizations do with the data that matters. Big data can be analyzed for insights that lead to better decisions and better services.

IoT has proven its value in the private sector. Ever since the 1980’s, US manufacturing has undergone a dramatic transition based on IoT. Machines that where once manually calibrated and maintained began to be controlled by specialized computers. These computers were able to quickly recalibrate tools which allowed manufactures to produce smaller batches of parts, but were also often locked into proprietary computing languages and architectures.

Too often we hear that people want to move everything to the cloud. Unfortunately cloud is not the easy button, and it will not fix every problem that you have with IT today. We have seen a large number of customers who do the math after moving to the cloud only to realize that it was more expensive to run in an offsite cloud than onsite IT. These customers then move away from offsite cloud for workloads that never should have left the building. The cloud in its many varieties is a good tool that can help organizations, but it needs to be thought out. This document is intended to help you move the right workloads to the right clouds in the best way possible and avoid the yoyo effect of moving twice and paying for the privilege of the experience.

Could you do more for worker safety? Protective gear alone can't prevent arc flash injury. In fact, according to NFPA 70E, injuries sustained during an arc ?ash event would be reduced and survivable due to arc-rated PPE. Complying with the safe work practices required by NFPA 70E and implementing arc flash mitigation strategies through engineering controls will enhance workplace safety for employees and lower financial risk for your company. Read the white paper, "Mitigating Arc Flash Hazards", for more information.

If not, you are increasing the risk for costly, unplanned downtime. However, despite the importance of having a reliable flow of electricity, over half of building owners rely on reactive maintenance programs to care for their equipment. This means they wait until equipment fails completely before initiating corrective action, which is typically 3-4 times more costly than taking preventive measures. A good first step to go from being reactive to proactive is having a power system assessment performed. While often deemed expensive or unnecessary, the truth is power system assessments reveal opportunities to modernize, imiprove performance and help protect employees. To learn more, download our checklist, ""Ten Ways a Power System Assessment Can Save You Money""."

Everything is changing in retail. Stores are becoming an omni channel experience; fulfilment and service centers and smart showrooms are enabling endless-aisle commerce. eCommerce and mobile customer experiences are changing retail, as retailers are now entering the third generation of ecommerce, in which IDC identifies eight core capabilities at the heart of the transformation of key operating models. Omni-channel fulfilment practices and new merchandise planning archetypes are emerging to drive profit, and retail technology is fundamentally changing, as digital transformations take shape in the industry. Websites, smartphones, the Internet of Things (IoT), and wearables change customers and their journeys, while 3D printing changes value chains and products, while IoT changes products, stores, and logistics, and artificial intelligence (AI), probably the most pervasive agent of change, will underpin new levels of customer individualization and workforce efficiencies.

Customer service has an opportunity to be a much more strategic weapon for businesses that understand its power. To do this means moving away from what has traditionally been viewed as a back-end operation and cost center to what is now being viewed as a brand-focused profit center. The primary driver of this sea change is engaged and empowered consumers, who want to get the answers to their questions anytime, anywhere, on any device they choose.

DPI software is made to inspect packets at high wire speeds and a critical factor is the throughput and resources required. Keeping the amount of resources that integrated DPI and application classification technology requires low is critical. The fewer cores (on a multi-core processor) and the less on-board memory an engine needs, the better. Multi-threading provides almost linear scalability on multi-core systems. In addition, highly-optimized flow tracking is required for handling millions of concurrent subscribers.

By necessity, every company is now a software company. By 2017, two-thirds of customer service transactions will no longer require the support of a human intermediary. That means that if you haven’t already done so, you must adapt your business model to meet the needs of online customers. Failure to do so will put you at a severe competitive disadvantage. Reports of cyberattacks now dominate the headlines. And while most high-profile attacks—including the major breaches at JP Morgan, Anthem and Slack—originated outside of the victimized organizations, theft and misuse of data by privileged users is on the rise. In fact, 69% of enterprise security professionals said they have experienced the theft or corruption of company information at the hands of trusted insiders.1 There are also cases where a company’s third-party contractors, vendors or partners have been responsible for network breaches, either through malicious or inadvertent behavior.

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) was first introduced in 2004 to increase controls over credit card holder data and to reduce the chances of credit card fraud. Validation is required annually and over the years, it has evolved with new revisions periodically. The latest one, version 3.2 came into force in April 2016. Until the end of January 2018, PCI DSS and Payment Application Data Security Standards (PA-DSS) are considered best practice to implement, and starting February 1, 2018, are considered a requirement.
