Using open source code is not necessarily a problem, but not knowing what open source you’re using can be extremely dangerous, particularly when so much open source contains security flaws. In fact, the latest Future of Open Source Survey found that: - 55 percent of respondents had no formal policy or procedure for open source consumption - 98 percent were unaware of the open source code they were using "Application Security in 2016," a complimentary report from Black Duck Software, considers the key application security challenges your organization will face, with a special focus on staying both agile and secure with open source. Since the SQL Access Group created the Call Level Interface, ODBC has become the most ubiquitous method for connecting to relational database sources. ODBC was developed to allow programmers to access relational data in a uniform manner, regardless of the database backend. ODBC translates those generic commands into the specific esoteric commands of the database backend, so the quality of the driver directly determines the performance of the database connectivity layer. As the approach to strategic business decision making becomes more and more data driven, a method for consolidating our various data sets, which are often spread across multiple systems becomes exceedingly important. Two of the biggest players in data driven decision making are website analytics platforms and customer relationship management systems. The former includes accumulating data on top of the funnel behavior such as site traffic origins, lead generation, content consumption tracking, device usage, and overall site behavior. While the latter has a focus more on bottom of the funnel activity such as lead nurturing, customer status, lifetime value, etc. Lastly, without communication between these two essential platforms, a complete understanding of your customers, from lead to longtime client, may never be possible. A web analytics (Google Analytics) and CRM integration provides you with a 360 degree view of your customer base, so that you can understand not just what PPC efforts

To streamline the process of maintaining desktop environments, many IT managers are turning to mobile-cloud first approaches to application and desktop delivery. And if your business is in a similar transition, due to trends in BYOD, changing application delivery models, and worker mobility, your end-user computing environments could be becoming overly complex. To combat this rising complexity, you need to consider implementing hybrid consumption models that work at scale and address security threats. Read this white paper that details how the next generation of desktop architectures is taking mobility into account and how IT strategies are shifting from managing devices to managing users.

The 21st century marks the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning capabilities for mass consumption. A staggering surge of machine learning has been applied for myriad of uses — from self-driving cars to curing cancer. AI and machine learning have only recently entered the world of cybersecurity, but it’s occurring just in time. According to Gartner Research, the total market for all security will surpass $100B in 2019. Companies are looking to spend on innovation to secure against cyberthreats. As a result, more tech startups today tout AI to secure funding; and more established vendors now claim to embed machine learning in their products. Yet, the hype around AI and machine learning — what they are and how they work — has created confusion in the marketplace. How do you make sense of the claims? Can you test for yourself to know the truth? Cylance leads the cybersecurity world of AI. The company spearheaded an innovation revolution by replacing legacy antivirus software with predictive, preventative solutions and services that protect the endpoint — and the organization. Cylance stops zero-day threats and the most sophisticated known and unknown attacks. Read more in this analytical white paper.

Even if one minute a day is lost to productivity drains because of PC horsepower allocation to security scans and remediation, the cost over a year across a medium-sized enterprise adds up quickly. A 10,000 employee operation would face over $10M in direct productivity losses alone. As an early trigger for expensive PC hardware refresh is an onslaught of help desk calls, many companies find that they can actually extend the hardware refresh cycle out another 12–24 months simply by employing a security solution that does not tax the PC as heavily. The indirect costs associated with brand reputation and opportunity losses add untold thousands of dollars per year as well. Further, some institutions under green initiatives monitor power consumption related to security measures favor solutions that use less energy. As such, forward-thinking enterprises are looking beyond the software license fees when evaluating security software alternatives.

IT virtualization, the engine behind cloud computing, can have significant consequences on the data center physical infrastructure (DCPI). Higher power densities that often result can challenge the cooling capabilities of an existing system. Reduced overall energy consumption that typically results from physical server consolidation may actually worsen the data center’s power usage effectiveness (PUE). Dynamic loads that vary in time and location may heighten the risk of downtime if rack-level power and cooling health are not understood and considered. Finally, the fault-tolerant nature of a highly virtualized environment could raise questions about the level of redundancy required in the physical infrastructure. These particular effects of virtualization are discussed and possible solutions or methods for dealing with them are offered.

If your organization is deploying a new server farm or cluster for any reason — a newly virtualized application or a growing business initiative, perhaps — this is the time to consider blade servers as a cost-effective alternative to traditional rack servers. In most use cases, you will find blade servers to be less expensive than rack servers for both the initial purchase as well as for long-term total cost of ownership (TCO). In addition, blades enable improvements in manageability, agility, scalability and power consumption.
