This whitepaper explores the new SPARC S7 server features and then compares this offering to a similar x86 offering. The key characteristics of the SPARC S7 to be highlighted are: ? Designed for scale-out and cloud infrastructures ? SPARC S7 processor with greater core performance than the latest Intel Xeon E5 processor ? Software in Silicon which offers hardware-based features such as data acceleration and security The SPARC S7 is then compared to a similar x86 solution from three different perspectives, namely performance, risk and cost. Performance matters as business markets are driving IT to provide an environment that: ? Continuously provides real-time results. ? Processes more complex workload stacks. ? Optimizes usage of per-core software licenses. Risk matters today and into the foreseeable future, as challenges to secure systems and data are becoming more frequent and invasive from within and from outside. The identity and access management challenges that exist in the physical world - identity management, application security, access control, managing sensitive data, user activity logging, and compliance reporting - are even more critical in the virtual environments that are growing in use as IT seeks to streamline its operations and reduce operating costs. However, security risks are increased due to the nature of the virtualization environment and IT should seek to extend their security solutions from the physical server environment to the virtualization environment as seamlessly as possible. Continue reading this white paper to learn how CA Content-Aware IAM solutions help protect customers in the physical world and similarly protect virtual environments by controlling identities, access, and information usage.

Data governance is all about managing data, by revising that data to standardize it and bring consistency to the way it is used across numerous business initiatives. What’s more, data governance ensures that critical data is available at the right time to the right person, in a standardized and reliable form. A benefit that fuels better organization of business operations, resulting in improved productivity and efficiency of that organization. Thus, the importance of proper data governance cannot be understated. The concepts of data governance have evolved, where the first iteration of data governance, often referred to as version 1.0, focused on three simplistic elements: objectives, structure and processes; having a limited focus and scope due to its tactical usage. The opportunity from the growing value of data in the realm of analytics, business intelligence, and generating insights was left unrealized. Today, organizations are moving towards what can be called Data Governance 2.0,

Today's IT executives are not only expected to create and maintain high-availability IT environments, but they are also expected to implement green initiatives to satisfy customers, analysts, and government agencies that are worried about the impact of modern, energy-thirsty data centers on the environment. Is such a dual mandate reasonable? Can companies be expected to maintain service levels and reduce their carbon footprints at the same time? The White Paper offers a description of the different types of services available to improved energy efficiency data center design and a prescription for successful implementation.

The recent release of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) study on data center energy efficiency is adding fuel to the fire in the research and development of new ways to reduce energy use in centers. The findings, summarized on the EPA website, are staggering: Data centers consumed about 60 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) in 2006, roughly 1.5 percent of total US electricity consumption -Energy consumption of servers and data centers has doubled in the past five years and is expected to almost double again in the next five years to more than 100 billion kWh, costing about $7.4 billion annually.
