Data center cable management is often considered a problem reserved for network engineering teams, but bad cable design can wreak havoc across your entire enterprise. “Spaghetti” cabinets and other symptoms of ill-considered cabling make it more difficult to complete equipment installations, troubleshooting, and maintenance. They can create an unsafe operating environment for your equipment by restricting airflow to racks, trapping dust, keeping cables warm, and making it impossible to understand at a glance how your devices are connected. Bad cable management practices can even hinder modern data center environments from adapting to new technologies like IoT and big data, provisioning IT resources on demand to support business innovation, and utilizing data center capacity to promote scalability, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.

For the second year, MicroStrategy has surveyed business intelligence and analytics decision makers from around the world about the current state of their organization’s analytics initiatives and their plans for the future. Respondents were asked about benefits realized, challenges to success, priorities, and investments—and most importantly, if current initiatives to create and deliver on a data-driven culture and business were moving forward. As in the previous year’s survey, respondents had no doubt about the importance of data and analytics when it came to digital transformation. Yet, this year’s analysis uncovered that, as the reality of 2020 and a new decade of accelerated innovation set in, a smaller set of leaders were confident in their progress to date.

Mountains of data promise valuable insights and innovation for businesses that rethink and redesign their system architectures. But companies that don’t re-architect might find themselves scrambling just to keep from being buried in the avalanche of data. The problem is not just in storing raw data, though. For businesses to stay competitive, they need to quickly and cost-effectively access and process all that data for business insights, research, artificial intelligence (AI), and other uses. Both memory and storage are required to enable this level of processing, and companies struggle to balance high costs against limited capacities and performance constraints. The challenge is even more daunting because different types of memory and storage are required for different workloads. Furthermore, multiple technologies might be used together to achieve the optimal tradeoff in cost versus performance. Intel is addressing these challenges with new memory and storage technologies that emp

Despite the greater frequency of extreme weather events occurring around the globe, freight still has to be delivered on time and on a year-round basis. Truck drivers often find themselves driving through rain, snow, sleet, hail, fog, ice, thunderstorms, tornadoes and high winds. While drivers aren't generally expected to stick to pre-planned routes in extreme weather, fleet managers don’t really have the capacity to outline every possible alternate route in anticipation of a future hazardous weather scenario. Data-driven route planning saves fuel, prevents accidents and improves ETAs, which is why many logistics companies are turning to advanced supply chain optimization solutions with real-time weather alerts and rerouting functionalities. Today, tech-savvy fleet managers are looking for exactly this type of tech innovations to provide them with a sharp competitive edge in an already crowded industry such as long-haul logistics.
