Software-defined architectures have transformed enterprises to become more application-centric. With application owners seeking public-cloud-like simplicity and flexibility in their own data centers, IT teams are under pressure to reduce wait times to provision applications. Legacy load balancing solutions force network architects and administrators to purchase new hardware, manually configure virtual services, and inefficiently overprovision these appliances. Simultaneously, new infrastructure choices are also enabling IT teams to re-architect applications into autonomous microservices from monolithic or n-tier constructs. These transformations are forcing organizations to rethink load balancing strategies and application delivery controllers (ADCs) in their infrastructure.

Virtualized Evolved Packet Core (vEPC) is a major breakthrough in network function virtualization (NFV). When asked where they have deployed NFV in production networks, communication service providers (CSPs) consistently name vEPC as one of the top answers. Why is that? In order to maximize their processing capacity, CSPs virtualize a subset of their network applications, including mobile edge computing (MEC), base stations (small/macro cells) and the mobile core, because these systems use a large bandwidth. The mobile packet core builds the foundation of the core network on which mobile CSPs offer IP-based services to their customers. Implementing vEPC solutions can help CSPs obtain the scale necessary to accommodate growing numbers of subscribers and large amounts of traffic or connections while controlling costs and improving on quality of experience (QoE). In the past, evolved packet core (EPC) solutions were deployed on purpose-built hardware. NFV enables operators to deploy EPC c

Your users, especially when working outside of the office, no longer need to always connect to the corporate network to get work done. They often connect directly to SaaS apps. And, let’s face it, employees also don’t turn on the VPN if they’re using their work laptop for personal use — which means they’re left with very little security protection. Plus, many organizations are now using direct internet connections at branch offices, which means employees and guest users don’t get the protection of your traditional security stack. Not only are more offices connecting directly to the internet — it’s estimated that 70% of branch offices already have some direct internet access — but attackers recognize these weak points in their targets and have started exploiting them more. To solve these new challenges, security controls must also shift to the cloud. This in-depth white paper describes how security must evolve to protect users anywhere they access the internet.

Endpoint devices continue to be one of the favorite targets for cyberattacks. A successfully compromised laptop provides a foothold for a threat to move laterally and infect other endpoints within the organization. To address this critical vulnerability, security leaders must integrate endpoint security into their broader network security architecture. A deep connection between endpoint and network security offers key improvements to holistic enterprise protection. It provides risk-based visibility of all endpoint devices, establishes policy-based access controls, enables real-time threat intelligence sharing, and automates security responses and workflows for effective and efficient protection that conserves time and money.

Attackers and malware are increasingly relying on a common set of tools to compromise identities and spread within a network. Tools like Mimikatz accompanied with common administrator tools like PsExec and WMI have become a standard part of an attacker’s arsenal to turn a single machine compromise into a full network breach. In this webinar we will take a look at why some of these tools are traditionally difficult to control, and introduce new countermeasures that let you fight back. In this webinar we will cover: - An analysis of recent malware and attacks and the tools they used to spread through the network. - A closer look at the underlying protocols supporting these tools, and the traditional challenges to controlling them. - Introduce new controls that allow organizations to control NTLM in real-time, block pass-the-hash techniques, and adaptively control the use of NTLM in the network. - How to gain visibility into PsExec, WMI, and RPC in general and how to create controls t

Can your organization afford to wait until after an attack happens to protect your users and your data? Perimeter security provides visibility and control for employee activity only when employees remain on a corporate network. What about roaming users who bypass the VPN? Or employees working in cloud applications? Web gateways only protect employees from threats over web ports 80 and 443. Today’s security must provide comprehensive protection across all ports and protocols to fill the gaps in the security stack. Hear from Eric Ahlm, Research Director at Gartner and Meg Diaz, Head of Product Marketing for Cisco Umbrella. Eric and Meg will address the challenges companies face as they compare modern convenience with the known risks of relinquishing visibility and control, especially as more sensitive data moves to the cloud. Join us for the guidance you need to stay ahead of the curve in 2018. We’ll discuss the right answer for protecting data in the digital age.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is composed of sensor-embedded devices and machines that exchange data with each other and the cloud through a secure network. Often referred to as “things” or “edge devices”, these intelligent machines connect to the internet either directly or through an IoT gateway, enabling them to send data to the cloud. Analyzing this data can reveal valuable insights about these objects and the business processes they’re part of, helping enterprises optimize their operations. Devices in IoT deployments can span nearly any industry or use case. Each one is equipped with sensors, processing power, connectivity, and software, enabling asset control and other remote interactions over the internet. Unlike traditional IT assets, these edge devices are resource-constrained (either by bandwidth, storage, or processing power) and are typically found outside of a data center, creating unique security and management considerations.

It used to be that you would build out your datacenter with all the right considerations in place, purchasing equipment that was sized to meet the needs of your organization for today and the near term future. Change used to be merely planning for capacity upgrades or network expansion, or migrating to the latest application version—or more simply put: things we could measure, control and manage. With the advent of the cloud, the rise in cyber-based threats, and the need to do more, faster, we’re witnessing a perfect storm that is making it more and more difficult for the enterprise to plan for change, and to maximize the investments that they make in their IT infrastructure today. This eBook will focus on considerations that you should make when deciding on an ADC solution that can not only survive these changes, but help create opportunities for innovation as the enterprise strives towards digital transformation. This guide will help you understand the changes that are currently unde

The world of IT is undergoing a digital transformation. Applications are growing fast, and so are the users consuming them. These applications are everywhere—in the datacenter, on virtual and/or microservices platforms, in the cloud, and as SaaS. More and more apps are now being moved out of datacenters to a cloud-based infrastructure. In order for an optimized and secure delivery of these applications, IT needs specific network appliances called Application Delivery Controllers (ADCs). These ADCs come in hardware, virtual, and containerized form factors, and are sized by Network Administrators based on the current and future usage of applications. The challenge with this is that it’s hard to foresee sizing or scalability requirements for these ADCs since users are constantly increasing, and applications are consistently evolving, as well as moving out of datacenters. Complicating matters, most ADCs are fixed-capacity network appliances that provide zero or minimum expansion capability

"High-profile cyber attacks seem to occur almost daily in recent years. Clearly security threats are persistent and growing. While many organizations have adopted a defense-in-depth strategy — utilizing anti-virus protection, firewalls, intruder prevention systems, sandboxing, and secure web gateways — most IT departments still fail to explicitly protect the Domain Name System (DNS). This oversight leaves a massive gap in network defenses. But this infrastructure doesn’t have to be a vulnerability. Solutions that protect recursive DNS (rDNS) can serve as a simple and effective security control point for end users and devices on your network. Today’s workforce is increasingly nomadic. Employees use personal and company-owned devices desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones with various operating systems to access corporate resources over different networks from virtually anywhere. Roaming users and cloud-based applications have eroded the network perimeter where enterprises have traditionally focused their security controls. In the wake of this disruption, vendors offered myriad point products that solve only a portion of the security problem. These products usually require costly custom integrations and high management overhead to boot. Making matters worse, traditional security approaches can’t address an evolving threat landscape that includes ransomware, stealthy attacks that dwell in a customer’s environment for months, and threats targeting iOS and Android devices. In fact, the mobile workforce is more vulnerable than ever before.
